What to consider

Leaves, moss and debris can obstruct gutters and downpipes, causing overflow onto walls and roofline components. Cleaning addresses the blockage; persistent overflow can indicate a separate problem with falls, joints or outlet capacity.

01

Clear the drainage route

A useful assessment considers the gutter channel, outlets and accessible downpipe sections together. Clearing one section alone may not resolve an obstruction further along the route.

02

Distinguish debris from defects

Leaking joints, sagging runs or damaged brackets can still cause problems after cleaning. These require repair or adjustment rather than repeated debris removal.

03

Safe access

Access requirements vary with height, extensions and surrounding ground. Do not attempt to clear high gutters from an unstable ladder; describe the property so suitable access can be considered.
