What to consider

Fascias form the roof-edge face and commonly support gutters, while soffits close the underside of the eaves. Replacement needs to consider the condition behind the visible boards and any ventilation provision at the roof edge.

01

Inspect underlying condition

Covering deteriorated material is not automatically an adequate repair. Accessible timber and fixing points should be considered when deciding whether boards need removal and replacement.

02

Coordinate gutters and edges

Gutter supports and roof-edge weathering need to work with the new fascia. The sequence of work should avoid leaving drainage or the eaves detail unsupported.

03

Preserve necessary ventilation

Where the roof design relies on eaves ventilation, replacement soffits must maintain suitable air paths. Ventilation requirements depend on the roof build-up and should be reviewed before openings are changed.
