What to consider

Flat-roof leaks can arise at seams, edges, outlets and upstands as well as through the covering itself. The condition of the underlying deck and compatibility of the repair material determine whether a local repair is appropriate.

01

Identify the existing system

Felt, rubber and fibreglass coverings require different repair approaches. The material and its condition should be identified before selecting products or detailing a patch.

02

Check moisture beneath the covering

A damaged deck or saturated insulation can make a surface-only repair unsuitable. Accessible layers and the extent of water entry may need to be assessed before the scope is agreed.

03

Repair or renew the build-up

A compatible local repair may suit an isolated fault. Extensive deterioration, poor falls or widespread moisture damage may instead require renewal of part or all of the roof build-up.
